St. Johannis-Kirche
Föhr, Nieblum
The impressive St. Johannis-Kirche in Nieblum, a small parish in the south of the North Sea island Föhr, is also known as the “Friesendom” (Frisian Cathedral). The small, defiant church is visible from miles away and is located in the middle of a historically preserved cemetery. Particularly well worth seeing are the three-winged altar from the 15th century and the massive granite baptismal font, which stems from the church’s predecessors (around 1200). The 17th century era pulpit is inscribed with Low German concerning the fall of man and the Last Judgment. The concerts of the Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival are, in this environment, real insider-tips for tourists and locals alike.
