The Musik- und Kongresshalle is located directly on the banks of river Trave. It was designed by the architect Meinhardt von Gerken, who successfully combined the modern requirements of a convention center with those of a concert hall. Since its opening in early October, 1994, the popularly named MuK (from Musik- und Kongresshalle) has earned a reputation for its natural and well-balanced acoustics. For the concerts of the Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival, the MuK offers room for up to 1800 concert guests, depending on the seating arrangement.
