While coincidentally traveling through in 1986, the then 15 year old violinist Gil Shaham played his violin in the empty Holstenhalle in Neumünster, and was very enthusiastic about the acoustics. Meanwhile, artists such as Leonard Bernstein, Gidon Kremer, Christoph Eschenbach, Elisabeth Leonskaja, and Herman van Veen with the Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival have enchanted audiences in the Holstenhalle. The Holstenhalle was originally built in 1939 as a cattle-auction hall, however, it was then used as an assembly hall for airplanes. With its 4000 seats, it is today one of the largest concert and event centers in Schleswig-Holstein, creating a truly massive classical music experience for the Schleswig- Holstein Musik Festival.
