At the spot of the Veranstaltungszentrum (event hall) there was once a guesthouse where in 1879, Johann Strauß composed his valse “Nordseebilder”. He was inspired by the atmosphere of the North Sea Island Föhr where he used to spend his summer holidays for two years. Until the mid-1950s the house was a hotel and then it was converted into a lecture theatre for the city of Wyk. Since 1991 it houses the event hall as well as the environment center. In the spirit of its former visitor Strauß the SHMF organizes a concert here in the summer.
