Ernst Deutsch Theater
Hamburg
The Ernst Deutsch Theater is the largest private theater of Germany. It was founded in 1951 by Friedrich Schütter and Wolfgang Borchert who named it »Das Junge Theater« (The Young Theater). In 1973, four years after the death of Ernst Deutsch, the theater was renamed as Ernst Deutsch Theater in honor of the Jewish actor. Today it consists of the main theater hall with 744 seats, a foyer with a stage for musical and literature programs and the »plattform-Bühne« - a stage for youth projects.
