The St. Marienkirche was built from 1595 to 1600. Its construction is a result of the modification and enlargement of the medieval chapel St. Jürgen, of which remains are still visible today. The style of the St. Marienkirche is shaped by the Renaissance. Due to a lack of money it was not until 1883 on the occasion of the 400th anniversary of Martin Luther’s birthday that the church was provided with a tower. After a short break the brick-lined building is again an atmospheric venue of the SHMF. St. Marienkirche Østergade 1 6400 Sønderburg Dänemark |
