Masterclasses and workshops

For almost four decades, the Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival (SHMF) has been dedicated to the musical promotion and further education of young musical talent. Every summer, numerous international students and music enthusiasts come to Lübeck to learn from the great musicians in their field. Important and internationally renowned artists such as David Geringas, Christoph Prégardien and Tabea Zimmermann have already been at the masterclasses to pass on their experience to the next generation. Big names of the classical music scene - such as Christiane Karg, Daniel Hope, Maxim Vengerov and VOCES8 - have attended the SHMF masterclasses during their training.

However, the SHMF is not only interested in supporting young professional musicians. It also offers workshops for amateur musicians of all ages, focussing on the joy of making music together. This also gives amateurs the opportunity to perform on stage with a festival star.

The Musikhochschule Lübeck (MHL), with its numerous classrooms and cosy courtyards, offers the ideal space for a concentrated working atmosphere, but also creates opportunity for personal and musical exchange. Workshops on mental and physical health for professional musicians complement the courses and promote the personal development of participants.

The courses at the MHL are open to the public so that guests can gain insight into the daily musical work of renowned musicians and teachers.  At the end of each masterclass and workshop, a public concert takes place as part of the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival. The programmes for the concerts are determined by the work with the lecturers, tickets are available from the official SHMF advance booking office.

Thanks to the personal commitment of private individuals and institutions, the Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival is able to award scholarships to selected participants.
