Masterclass Frans Helmerson

18 - 22 August 2026

Lübeck University of Music

Since the festival was founded, the masterclasses have been a centrepiece of the SHMF and offer young musicians the opportunity to spend a week working intensively with their instrument - accompanied by renowned artists from the world of classical music. This summer, the Swedish cellist Frans Helmerson will be leading one of the coveted masterclasses. Helmerson is one of the most important personalities on the international music scene: as a soloist and chamber musician, he has performed in the world's most important concert halls, founded the "Michelangelo String Quartet" and influenced generations of cellists as a professor at renowned universities. In Lübeck, he passes on his knowledge and experience to up-and-coming talents. Together they work on sound, technique, expression and presence of the musical personality. The course ends with a concert at the SHMF.
