Daniel Hope, violinist and passionate music promoter, will be the portrait artist of the Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival 2023. 50 events will take place in the next festival year to mark his 50th birthday. The first of these will be four concerts in January and February 2023, for which tickets are now on pre-sale.
»Daniel Hope is a long-time member of the festival family and I am incredibly happy that he is celebrating his special birthday with us for a whole year. Already, we want to announce four concerts that mark the beginning of an extensive series of events. We are looking forward to a year with Daniel Hope and his many artistic partners. It will be a celebration!«, says Festivalintendant Dr. Christian Kuhnt.
In addition to concerts, readings, film screenings and workshops are also planned. Most of the events will take place during the festival period from July 1 to August 27, 2023.
»In 1987, I was invited to perform at SHMF for the first time. I was thirteen years old, and it was one of my first public appearances. The atmosphere at the 'Musikfest auf dem Lande' was unique, unforgettable. In the meantime, I keep returning to the SHMF. The fact that I am now allowed to create 50 events in and around Schleswig-Holstein throughout the coming year is an honor and a great gift. I can hardly wait to present a large, multi-faceted program with my musical friends at the many festival venues and thus celebrate my birthday in the north as well with the great audience there.«, Daniel Hope is looking forward.
Happy New Year, Mr. Hope!
The SHMF concert year begins with two concerts on January 6, 2023 in Kiel and January 7, 2023 in Ratzeburg. Daniel Hope will be on stage with "his" Zurich Chamber Orchestra as soloist and conductor and will interpret, among other works, Felix Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto in D minor, which his mentor Yehudi Menuhin once rediscovered. With the "Lament" he also presents a contemporary work on the program, which the composer Mark-Anthony Turnage dedicated to Daniel Hope and which receives its German premiere here.
Air – a baroque Journey
With this title, Daniel Hope explores the great sound worlds of the Baroque for violin on February 6, 2023 in Schleswig and on February 7, 2023 in Meldorf. Flanked by an ensemble of good friends on violin, cello, harpsichord, lute and drum, the violinist presents a festive program of baroque works by Bach, Handel and other contemporaries.
