The historic ACO Thormann Hall is located on the grounds of the Carlshütte art complex in Rendsburg-Büdelsdorf. Built in 1890 by timber merchant Theodor Thormann, the building was converted in 2011 into a rehearsal and concert hall for the Schleswig-Holstein Festival Orchestra, accommodating up to 1,200 audience members.
When the Carlshütte iron foundry, the first industrial enterprise in the duchies of Schleswig and Holstein, ceased production after 170 years in 1997, the expansive site and its unique ensemble of buildings began a new chapter. Today, this impressive industrial monument houses the Carlshütte art complex, a non-profit cultural initiative by the internationally active ACO Group and the towns of Büdelsdorf and Rendsburg. It serves as a special venue for exhibitions, concerts, readings, and film screenings. At its heart is NordArt (www.nordart.de), one of Europe’s largest annual exhibitions of contemporary art, showcasing works by more than 200 selected artists from around the world and attracting over 100,000 visitors each summer.
