The Cathedral in Ratzeburg is an excellent example of Roman brick architecture in northern Germany. Dating back to 1160, this structure is located at the highest point on the northern part of Ratzeburg’s old town center. The cathedral was funded by “Heinrich der Löwe” as a bishop’s church to Ratzeburg and is, along with the cathedrals of Schwerin, Lübeck and Braunschweig, one of four so-called “Lion Cathedrals.” The Ratzeburg Cathedral is a wonderful venue in a unique location for concerts of the Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival.
