Church on the market place – church in the world; this is what St. Jürgen Kirche in Heide wants to be. In 1560, this church was built on the foundation of a destroyed chapel to serve as a gathering place for the free farmers of Dithmarschen. Still today, starting with its location on the largest market place in Germany in the center of the district town, the church generates strong spiritual, social and cultural impulses for the people in the region. This stone church, built in old farm house style, is the perfect setting for chamber concerts and a cappella performances.
