The St. Michaelis-Kirche in Lüneburg was shaped by music and is even known as the “Bach Church of the North”. It was built in 1376 and from 1700 to 1702 Johann Sebastian Bach visited the church-affiliated Miachaelis School, which was then home to the largest choir library in Germany. During this time, Bach became familiar with the Northern German churches and their organs, becoming inspired by them. Large churches, such as St. Michaelis, are the ideal location for the larger concerts of the Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival.
