The pearl anniversary... Anne-Sophie Mutter and Lambert Orkis could have celebrated it recently were they a married couple. They are not, of course, but maybe over 30 years together on stage also counts? After all, almost no year has passed since 1988 without the German violinist and the American pianist touring together. “Meeting Lambert was a stroke of luck in my life. When we started making music together, it crystallized very quickly how perfectly we breathe and phrase together.” Anne-Sophie Mutter and Lambert Orkis performed their first concerts together in the US in December 1988.[HD1]  For Anne-Sophie Mutter, the similarities in musical thought that they immediately sensed were “either present or not. It is hard to describe in words. But you can also tell right away if you can really talk to a person. This very original basis has always remained intact in all our years together.” Beethoven and his sonatas for piano and violin have always been particularly close to the hearts of the duo – as they were at their first SHMF concert together in 1993.
