Chorwerke von Carl Nielsen u. a. sowie Werke für Orgel solo

One of the world’s leading chamber choirs comes from northern Germany: the NDR Chorus, founded in 1946. Equally comfortable with old and new music, the choir is praised for richly nuanced sonority and its empathy for the styles of different musical eras. The NDR Choir has been under the direction of the Dutchman Klaas Stok since 2018. “Singing for me is very close to the human soul,” says Stok, who has won numerous national and international awards as an organist and, as a conductor, has a longstanding intensive collaboration with the Netherlands Chamber Choir as well as the Netherlands Radio Choir. For this choir night, Klaas Stok and the NDR Choir, together with Anne Michael, cantor of Meldorf Cathedral, will dedicate themselves to sacred compositions by Carl Nielsen, among others, whose Three Motets Op. 55 bear witness to his engagement with Italian vocal music of the Renaissance. The program includes Gustav Jenner, another composer born in Keitum on the island of Sylt in 1865, the same year as Nielsen.
