German Brass around the World

“Through our instruments, we can deliver a range of different sounds and dynamics that no other instrument family can,” says trumpeter Matthias Höfs in a teaser for the German Brass album Brass Heralds. “We write the music for our lips, not for a line-up, but for the players, meaning that the music is tailored to everyone's abilities...” Höfs performed as a soloist at the SHMF last year, and his nine ensemble colleagues are also absolute experts in their field. The impressive success story of German Brass, which dates to 1974, is also based on the always good-humored repertoire and not least on the fact that they have Klaus Wallendorf, longtime member and “private poet” of the Berliner Philharmoniker in their ranks. The “casual wordsmith, user-lyricist, presenter and semi-official entertainer” knows how to enrich the musical program with humorous comments.
