“Music is never old or new – it exists only in the moment it is played.” Hugo Ticciati founded the sound cosmos O/Modernt, in English “Un/Modern”, based on this guiding principle. The heart of the initiative is its own young chamber orchestra, and its artistic playground is the festival of the same name, which takes place annually in Stockholm – the original source of extraordinarily unconventional projects that have since ventured out to conquer the world’s major stages. The focus is on reaching the most diverse target groups with music, breaking down boundaries and building bridges between people, eras and cultures. At the SHMF, for example, the Hungarian dances of this year’s spotlight composer Johannes Brahms will be interpreted through Balkan music. Arrangement, instrumentation, and scoring are chosen so that it is difficult to differentiate between old and new or between popular and serious music. But there is also no need to do so, because it distracts from the essential: the moment!
