Andreas Staier, Pianoforte
Album für die Jugend op.68 (Auswahl)
Sieben Klavierstücke in Fughettenform op.126
Sonata in B flat major D 960
A short journal entry by Schumann on February 24, 1838 reads “the little piece ‘Träumerei’ is composed.” What the 28-year-old composer succinctly calls “a little piece” here, however, quickly became one of the most popular works of music of all time. Played as an encore, it still makes audiences melt in their seats today. “Träumerei” marks the middle of the set of thirteen movements of the work called “Kinderszenen” (Scenes from Childhood), Op. 15, which is rarely performed in its entirety. The great German fortepiano specialist Andreas Staier will play them, along with a selection from “Album for the Young” (Album für die Jugend), the “Seven Piano Pieces in Fughetta Form” (Sieben Klavierstücke in Fughettenform), and Schubert's colossal Sonata in B flat major on a grand piano built in 1837 by the Parisian company Érard, one year before Schumann put his “Kinderszenen” on paper.
