The National Youth Orchestra of Romania is more than just an orchestra. It gathers the most talented musicians in the country to promote musical excellence and creativity through a unique educational program. Of vital importance is the collaboration with internationally sought-after artists like Sarah Chang, David Garrett, Stefan Geiger, Elizabeth Leonskaja, and Pinchas Zukerman. The orchestra has long been a source of rapturous applause not only within Romania, but around the globe. For their journey north, the young virtuosos bring with them a program that celebrates this year’s spotlight composer Johannes Brahms with verve and passion: In addition to his famous Hungarian Dances, which were extremely popular at the time of their composition because of their exotic expressiveness, they will perform the violin concerto of the century violinist Joseph Joachim, who was one of Brahms’ closest friends. The Romanian Gabriel Bebeșelea is a shooting star on the international conducting scene.
