Monaco Swing Ensemble

Inspired by style icon Django Reinhardt, the “Monaco Swing Ensemble” from Munich has been scouring the traditional jazz landscape of Europe since 2015, from its first heyday in the 1930s to modern forms of Parisian-style gypsy jazz. The core instrumentation of gypsy swing with solo guitar, rhythm guitar, and double bass is complemented by a two-part brass section: clarinet, bass clarinet, and soprano and tenor saxophones create a wide variety of timbres that lend the band’s repertoire an unmistakable sound, and always crowned with surprising vocal passages. The audience celebrates the Monaco Swing Ensemble for its irrepressible playfulness and spontaneity, which turns every concert into a fast-paced trip through the vastness of gypsy jazz. Four album releases, concert tours throughout Germany, appearances on public radio, and engagements abroad in England, Austria, and France make the Monaco Swing Ensemble an insider tip for lovers of handmade live music. For gypsy swing fans they have long been much more than that.
