Klassiker von Mozart und Beethoven sowie kubanische Tänze
When Sarah Willis, horn player with the Berliner Philharmoniker for almost 20 years, heard about the Mozart Festival in Havana in 2017, she could not miss this event. Once in Cuba, she met the outstanding musicians of the Havana Lyceum Orchestra. Ludwig van Beethoven was as much a part of the young musicians’ training as Johann Sebastian Bach or Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Now, the Havana Lyceum Orchestra and Sarah Willis are dedicating themselves to Mozart’s demanding Horn Concerto No. 3 at the SHMF. With Mozart’s Symphony No. 39, they will also lead the way with E.T.A. Hoffmann’s words “into the depths of the spirit realm.” Plus, two movements from Jenny Peña Campo Field’s Suite Cubana will lend traditional Cuban variety to the program. The young Cuban violinist and composer based her composition on the rhythms of her country. Mambo and Conga are two dances typical for the country, which transport the Cuban attitude towards life over a distance of 8,000 km to Northern Germany.
