Ludwig van Beethoven:
Violin Concerto in D major, Op. 61
Nigel Kennedy:
Violin Concerto No. 1 “For Ludwig Van”

Nigel Kennedy is without a doubt the most extravagant and dazzling violin virtuoso of our time. Influenced by his mentors, one of the great violinists of the 20st century, Yehudi Menuhin, and jazz violin legend Stephane Grappelli, the Briton has been breaking the boundaries of every established concert tradition and performance practice for decades. In this special concert, Kennedy will wish Ludwig van Beethoven a belated 250th birthday, saying: “What a beautiful project to be involved in: the music of Beethoven (the first punk who was brave beyond anything achieved by any 20th-century band) and music by someone nominated by media pundits as the first punk violinist – none other than myself! Beethoven’s violin concerto is well loved and recognized as one of the truly greatest of its genre. The aspects of Beethoven’s character which prevail here are not the famous reckless ones but once of reconciliation and transcendence. I wrote my concert ‘For Ludwig Van’ because of a general inspiration derived from Beethoven’s work in music how he sets an autonomous path for all creative musicians in the future (if they wanted it!). My colleagues in the orchestra and myself will endeavor to give you an absolutely unique perspective of the man who changed music more than any other.”
