Songs and duets by Schubert, Mendelssohn, Schumann and Brahms

Love in all its facets is the recurring theme in the great song cycles of Romanticism. Since it always involves two people, it is actually surprising that these cycles were almost invariably written for a single voice with piano accompaniment. The duet, which allows the man and woman to exchange a dialog with one another, was not able to truly prevail. Which is cause to be even more excited for two evenings of duets with famous German vocalist Benjamin Appl at this summer’s festival. He will be joined one evening by English soprano singer Mary Bevan as they interpret the duets of the two close friends Schumann and Mendelssohn, as well as Brahms, and on a separate evening by the young Austrian mezzo-soprano singer Sophie Rennert as a tribute to the great love between Robert and Clara.
