Schubert's Trios

Schubert's Trios

Busch Trio

Schloss Gottorf, Sommerwiese, Open Air Schloßinsel 1, Schleswig,

Franz Schubert:
Piano Trio No. 1 B flat major, D 898
Antonín Dvořák:
Piano Trio No. 1 in B flat major, Op. 21

Their playing is rich in contrast, full of sparkling zeal, multi-layered, and transparent – and yet it seems so effortless. Dutchman Mathieu van Bellen and Israeli brothers Ori and Omri Epstein met while studying at London’s prestigious Royal College of Music and in 2012 formed the “Busch Trio” named after legendary violinist Adolf Busch. “The trio is the result of many years of friendship,” is how Omri Epstein describes the essence of the trio’s self-image, which within a short time has developed into one of the leading ensembles worldwide. Following their internationally acclaimed complete recording of Antonín Dvorák’s piano trios, quartets, and quintet, the young artists have been dedicating themselves to the complete recording of Franz Schubert’s chamber music works since 2020. At the SHMF, the trio presents itself for the first time with two piano trios by Franz Schubert, which were composed in the last year before his death. The works are juxtaposed with two piano trios by the Bohemian composers Antonín Dvořák and Bedřich Smetana.
