Songs and instrumental works by
Franz Schubert

As one of the most important lyrical tenors, Christoph Prégardien is known for his clear voice and precise singing as well as his touching text interpretation and diction. In addition, he knows how to reach the human core of a role, which earns him enthusiastic approval from the audience and the press. For the festival summer, the tenor has selected some of Franz Schubert’s most popular songs like “Erlkönig,” “Wandrers Nachtlied,” and “Im Frühling”. The violinist Franziska Hölscher, the cellist Jens Peter Maintz, and the pianist Daniel Heide are the first-class instrumentalists featured in this concert, which is arranged entirely in the style of the “Schubertiades” popular during Schubert’s time: The songs are juxtaposed with Schubert’s highly virtuosic Cello Sonata in A minor, among other works. Elated melodies and melancholy abysses show how Schubert’s song writing flowed into his chamber music.
