Stefano Bollani, piano
Geir Lysne, conductor
"Viaggio in Italia"
Stefano Bollani was already clear at the age of six about what he wanted to do as an adult: become a famous singer. A few years later he recorded a cassette and sent it to the Italian entertainer legend Renato Carosone, whom he admired. Carosone replied that he should listen to plenty of blues and jazz while he pursued his goal. Today Stefano Bollani is one of the most important European jazz greats and plays in the international league. He has realized his childhood dream, even if today he “sings” through the keys of the piano as an overwhelmingly virtuoso and humorous soloist. “I always try to have fun with my music,” Bollani explains. And he prefers to do so in unorthodox encounters, for example, with the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, or with the Brazilian singer-songwriter Caetano Veloso. Stefano Bollani recorded the Jazz ECHO award-winning album "Big Band!" in 2013 with the NDR Bigband and can be seen live at the SHMF for the first time this summer.
