Time for Three
Time for Three
Classic, Bluegrass, Pop, Jazz – Time for Three fascinates from Bach to Justin Timberlake
In 2010, the SHMF organized a veritable “birthday party” for the festival orchestra’s “principal conductor,” Christoph Eschenbach, which included a total of three opulent concerts and an illustrious group of classical stars and “discoveries,” giving Eschenbach the opportunity to conduct a high-caliber musical birthday serenade. At the special request of Eschenbach, the crossover trio Time for Three also participated. The three outstanding classical string musicians studied at the Curtis Music Institute in Philadelphia as well as the New York Juilliard School. In their spare time, they also enjoy playing bluegrass, folk, and occasionally jazz. They have been playing professionally since 2003. When founding member Zachary DePue decided to devote himself to his role as concertmaster of the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, Nicolas Kendall and Ranaan Meyer searched for a new violinist and found Charles Yang in 2016 – a real stroke of luck, since he went on to win the 2018 SHMF Leonhard Bernstein Award donated by the Sparkassen-Finanzgruppe, thanks in part to his rendition of Korngold’s Violin Concerto and a new folk encore that had the audience in the Lübeck MuK on its feet.
