The text and language used to tell a good story are the origins and foundation of theater. The renowned actors and language artists Ulrich Tukur and Christian Redl want to remind us of these beginnings, especially in a time that seems to be characterized by a shortage of language and simultaneous visual overstimulation. In addition to their favorite poems, they have chosen a genre that has been unjustly almost forgotten: the ballad. Like the detective novel, this narrative form thrives on moments of suspense and bombshell effects. And like in this related genre, it is often about murder, adultery, seduction and unrequited love as Friedrich Schiller noted, himself an enthusiastic ballad writer. Beneath the rhymed surface, Tukur and Redl, for whom these stirring poems resemble old tabloids at the highest literary level, repeatedly discover the conflict of the individual with society and pose the eternal questions of justice, fate and guilt. Pianist Olena Kushpler responds at the piano to the texts by Goethe, Fontane, Heine, and Brecht with pieces of music that were often written around the same time as the poems.
