Works by Hindemith and Samy Moussa

Since 1990, the Hindemith Prize has been awarded annually at the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival. The prize is intended to promote outstanding contemporary composers. At the same time, the award commemorates the musical pedagogy of Paul Hindemith, who wrote the composition “Plöner Musiktag” in 1932 on behalf of the Staatliche Bildungsanstalt Plön. Previous prize winners have included Olga Neuwirth, Matthias Pintscher, Thomas Adès, Joerg Widmann, Lera Auerbach, Johannes Maria Staud, Bernd Richard German, David Philip Hefti (2015) and Anna Clyne (2016). The SHMF-comissioned work from last year's prizewinner will be premiered on August 7, 2017 at the concert with Avi Avital and the Kremerata Baltica in the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg. In 2017, the prestigious prize will be presented to the composer and conductor, Samy Moussa, who was born in Montréal, Canada, in 1984 and currently lives in Berlin and Paris.
