Forum für Baukultur

The Forum for Building Culture is a multifunctional event hall for lectures, exhibitions, panel discussions and workshops. The building complex on Waisenhofstraße in the immediate vicinity of Kiel City Hall was built in 1904 as a teachers' library with a school museum and gymnasium. It was later used by the adult education center and, from 2015, as initial accommodation for refugees. From 2018, the property was renovated in line with its listed status. In November 2023, the state capital of Kiel as the client and the architectural firms involved were awarded a prize by the Association of German Architects (BDA). The jury praised the transformation of the listed building as »an outstanding example of the careful renovation and renewal of a historic building«.
