This evening at Hamburg’s Elbphilharmonie is all about traditional music and poetry from Israel, the home of this year’s portrait artist Omer Meir Wellber. Together with the globally acclaimed mandolinist Jacob Reuven, also from Israel, the composer, singer and conductor David Sebba, and the young soprano Einat Aronstein, Wellber will take us into worlds that are touching both literarily and sonically. “We want to combine music with very interesting texts from a special corner of Israeli culture. This is about the topic of ‘translations’. We often forget how important translations are for people who want to find a new home in a foreign country. For example, translations of the Hebrew language were in great demand among Jews who immigrated to Israel – after all, they were also a prerequisite for understanding Israeli culture. And it is not only about the translation of language, but also of music!” says Omer Meir Wellber.
