Horn player Felix Klieser’s great passion is to showcase his instrument in all its facets and colors, whether as a soloist or a chamber musician. The program of this concert evening leads deep into the sphere of romantic horn sounds with a formation that is a rather rare experience in the concert hall: a trio of horn, violin, and piano. In his early youth, Felix Klieser was already occupying himself with the chamber music bravura piece of the horn literature par excellence, the famous trio by Johannes Brahms. “This horn trio is something very special in that Johannes Brahms himself played the horn in his childhood. So, he had a clear idea of this instrument,” explains Klieser, who received the SHMF’s Leonard Bernstein Award in 2016. Together with his music-making partners, the Ukrainian violinist Andrej Bielow and the Croatian pianist Martina Filjak, Klieser also interprets lesser-known works of very special sonic appeal, like the Horn Trio No. 1 by the Frenchman Frédéric Duvernoy, who was himself principal horn at the Paris Opera in the early 19th century.
