Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart:
Quintet for clarinet and string quartet in A major, K. 581
Franz Schubert:
Octet F major, Op. 166

It is not so easy to bring together different musicians for the performance of a chamber music work for a mixed instrumentation of strings and winds: fixed ensembles opt for more common formations such as the string quartet or the wind quintet and invite a guest from another instrumental genre for individual concerts. How wonderful, then, that SHMF family member Sabine Meyer has trusted musician friends, friends who will join her in performing Franz Schubert’s magnificent six-movement Octet in F major, which should not be missing from this composer retrospective under any circumstances – for it is undoubtedly considered one of the most important chamber music works of the 19th century. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Clarinet Quintet also fits into the format of making music in a family circle: It is one of the works in which his unshakeable friendship with the clarinetist Anton Stadler manifests itself and his great admiration for his talent breaks through, making it one of the composer’s most intimate and private works.
