"Yehudi Menuhin – The Violin of the Century"
A film by Bruno Monsaingeon

It is already for the fifth time, that Daniel Hope designs his own concert series on the island of Lübeck’s old town within the framework of the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival. The artist, who studied at the University of Music in Lübeck, has been bringing his musical family together every year since 2015 to perform in the many charming and very contemplative venues of historic Lübeck. In 2019, Daniel Hope will be dedicated to his long-standing mentor and musical pioneer Yehudi Menuhin, who died in 1999, with a total of eleven different concerts. In addition to the early Concerto for Violin and String Orchestra in D minor by Felix Mendelssohn, which Menuhin discovered in spectacular fashion in 1951, Daniel Hope will also present Max Bruch’s Double Concerto for Clarinet, Viola, and Orchestra with his longtime friend Philip Dukes and the Sinfonia Varsovia, with which Menuhin recorded countless albums. In the other concerts, Daniel Hope, together with former students of the Menuhin School, will create selected classics of the chamber music that Menuhin loved so much. “It is a special pleasure for us, to be able with the help of the initiative 'Live Music Now' to put a concert project into practice that brings music to people who cannot otherwise experience it. The initiative was launched by Yehudi Menuhin in the UK in 1977. .  The young musicians play with passion and devotion and delight their listeners, so that the audience and the artists experience together the kind of power that music can have for both: that in the spirit of Yehudi Menuhin it comforts, heals and brings joy.”

The Lübeck Music Festival is supported by the Possehl-Stiftung.
