“Twenty years is a remarkable milestone for any ensemble,” says pianist Jens Elvekjaer. When it comes to Trio con Brio Copenhagen, everyone knew from the beginning that they would find their musical identity as a group: “It has something to do with the structure of a trio, with this triangle that somehow bundles and reinforces the special understanding we all have as people and musicians. It is freedom and fulfillment at the same time.” Trio con Brio recently celebrated its 20th anniversary with an award-winning complete recording of all of Ludwig van Beethoven’s piano trios. The three musicians will open their concerts at the SHMF with one of the most performed Danish composers of our time: The ensemble is dedicated to Hans Abrahamsen’s “Traumlieder” (Dream Songs) – a new arrangement of his “Six Pieces” from 1984. Performances include works by Alexander von Zemlinsky and Johannes Brahms, whose “Piano Trio No. 2” – completed during a summer vacation in 1882 in the lovely Salzkammergut region of Bad Ischl – is one of the most whimsical of its kind because of its expansive piano part and the breadth and complexity of its forms.
