Ernst Deutsch Theater

The Ernst Deutsch Theater in Hamburg is Germany's largest private theater. It was founded in 1951 by Friedrich Schütter and Wolfgang Borchert as "Das Junge Theater" (the young theater) and in 1973 was renamed the "Ernst Deutsch Theater" in honor of Ernst Deutsch. At the traditional location of the UFA Palace, a powerful stage developed quickly. The completely modernized theater has 743 seats. In 2008 an additional performance space was opened for the youth center: the platform stage with 100 seats. In addition, in 2015, the new Foyer was opened, featuring a studio with 80 seats for literary/musical programs.
